Funeral services for Maureen Brown, age 53, former Harpers Ferry, Iowa resident, were held December 14 at Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos, California with the Rev. Win Gould officiating. Burial was in an adjoining cemetery.

Maureen, daughter of Thomas and Alberta (Melavin) Cavanaugh, was born June 21, 1936 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. On September 7, 1963 she married Dennis Brown in Iowa City, Iowa. She was a teacher in Kansas City, Kansas and Independence before returning to the University of Iowa. At the time of her illness, she was attending classes at San Jose State College and living in San Jose, California.

Maureen Brown died December 10, 1989, one month after having major heart surgery. She was preceded in death by her father who died in 1945, her mother Alberta who died three years ago, her step-father, Matt Feldkamp who died in 1972, half brother Father Joseph Cavanaugh, and half sister, Jean Cavanaugh.

Surviving are her husband, Dennis: 2 daughters, Katie Brown, a student at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California and Laura Brown, at home; a son Doug Brown, also at home; a brother Paul Cavanaugh of Waukon, Iowa; 4 sisters, Therese Styers and Cecelia Horn, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Betty Ohm of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Irene O'Brien of Dubuque, Iowa; a half brother Michael Cavanaugh of Stockton, California and a half sister, Patricia Delphey of Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
