Memorial services for Martha (Gruhn) Csillag will be held on April 26 at 1 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Martha was born February 2, 1910 in Danzig, Germany to Frederick W. and Elsa (Schaar) Gruhn. She came to America in September of 1923 with her mother and her 3 siblings, joining Frederick who had settled in Postville, Iowa earlier in 1923. She was raised on a farm northeast of Postville in Post Township. She attended the West Grove School. She married Andrew Csillag and they made their home out East in the state of New York. Her last residence was in Queens, New York. Martha died March 24, 1997.

NOTE: The memorial service was held in Castalia, Iowa for family and friends but it is not known if Martha Csillag was brought back from New York to be buried locally or if she had been buried in New York. The clipping did not list when she married Andrew, did not list any survivors, or who preceded her in death. It is known that she had 4 brothers, Paul Gruhn and his wife Lillian resided in Waterloo, Iowa and later, they lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert Gruhn and his wife Beverly lived in Postville, Iowa, there was a Frederick William Gruhn, and one brother who died in infancy. Martha had 4 sisters, Anna married Herman Hartman, Lottie married Thomas Keen, Edith married Nick Clesi, and Gretchen Marlene was married to Davis Buddenberg. Gretchen and Davis lived on a farm near Castalia, Iowa.
