Sudden Death of John Short.

Friends and acquaintances of John Short, Jr., of French Creek township, were surprised and shocked Tuesday evening of last week when they learned of his death, which took place late that afternoon. He had been in Waukon during the day, returning home after dinner with one of the walnut log haulers who carried him within two miles of home and he walked the balance of the way. After arriving he attended to some chores and then sat down to read a paper. Shortly afterward with the remarked that he believed he was going to die he laid down on the ged and in a few moments passed away. A physician was called, but before he could get there was notified that his patient was dead.

The deceased was aged 42 years, 3 months and 6 days, having been born Nov. 17, 1883, in French Creek township, and this county has been his home ever since. He was never married and lived on the farm where he was born with his father John Short, who, with his brothers, Michael and William, are the surviving members of the family. They have the sympathy of many friends in their trouble.

The funeral was held Thursday morning with requiem Mass at Lycurgus church celebrated by Rev. Father McNamara, and the remains were laid to rest beside his mother in Lycurgus cemetery.
