Funeral services for Elizabeth "Bessie" Olson, age 99, were held Wednesday, January 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were grandsons, Leo Poehling, Paul Poehling, Henry Poehling, William Poehling, Tom Poehling, and Ron Tierney. Honorary pallbearers were the administrator and staff members of Northgate Manor.

Elizabeth, daughter of William and Margaret (Sweeney) Waldron, was born February 4, 1890 in Lansing, Iowa. She attended school through the eighth grade. After receiving teaching instruction, she taught rural school. On May 10, 1910 she married Leo Olson in Lansing, Iowa. They lived in Lansing and Waukon, Iowa and on farms in Allamakee County. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and its Rosary Society.

Bessie died Sunday January 21, 1990 at Northgate Manor in Waukon, Iowa where she had been a resident for 11 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; two daughters, Mary and Leonette, a son Davello Olson; two brothers, James Waldron and Frank Waldron and three sisters, Mathilda "Tillie" Walsh, Mary Waldron, and Gretta Schlueter.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Marcella Robinson of Waukon, Iowa and Estelle Tierney of Mason City, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Ryan.
