Jean Duffy Dougherty, 81, of Owatonna, MN died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Traditions of Owatonna. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna, MN. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home Tuesday, June 21 from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service in the church.
Jean was born February 9, 1930 in Dorchester, the daughter of Francis and Marie (Blake-Schulte) Duffy. There she was raised and attended school, graduating from Dorchester High School. She was united in marriage to Bernie Dougherty September 4, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester. They made their home in Dubuque.
Following Bernie’s military service, the couple lived in several locations. In 1963, they moved to Luverne, MN, where she was employed in retail at Luverne Style Shop and later Schutz’s Hardware. In 1998, the couple moved to Owatonna. Bernie died in January 2002.
Jean was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, golfing and socializing. Jean was very artistic and creative. She liked to paint and had a flare for decorating. She was very supportive of her children, all with six unique personalities. Early on she’d enjoy watching them participate in sporting and other activities, but was so nervous she had to videotape the games. Jean especially enjoyed listening to Bernie sing along with the rest of the musical Doughertys. As a grandmother, she was a positive support. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Jean lived well, laughed often, and loved much.
She is survived by her children, Dan Dougherty of Superior, WI, Kim (Larry) Larson of Owatonna, MN, Shawn (Tammie) Dougherty of Red Wing, MN, Shelly (Scott) Golberg of Owatonna, MN, Kelly (Lisa) Dougherty of Sachse, TX, and Amy (Jim) Baldus of Mound, MN; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Skillion of Redding, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; her parents, Marie and Francis Duffy; two sisters, Agnes “Jeri” White and Mary Kneeskern; and a brother, Jack Duffy.
