Emily Johnson
Emily Jane Johnson of West Des Moines passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at home. Funeral services were held Friday, June 17 at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Emily Jane Fisk was born April 8, 1917 to Blanche and Truesdail Fisk in Carlyle, IL. She was the youngest of three, including her sister, Dixie, and her brother, Bob.
Her family was the fourth generation of hoteliers. Emily enjoyed sports through college, running track and playing tennis, basketball and softball. She met Jules Johnson at a college dance. They married and had three children. Jules and Emily lived nearly 50 years in the West Des Moines area. Emily was a homemaker, also volunteering her time with the Heart & Lung Association, church and school kitchens.
She and Jules had a summer cabin in Lansing on the Mississippi River for over 40 years, which was her second home. She was hospitable to so many, allowing others to enjoy a relaxing view of the river, good food, and a night's rest if needed. Hotelier was always in her blood.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her daughter, Denise (Don) Hunt; grandchildren, Jesse (Tina) Hunt, Julie (Dennis Prine) Johnson, Andrea Johnson and Heather Johnson; great grandchildren, Joshua and Shianne Johnson; and many friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jules; and her sons, Dan and Jeff.The Waukon Standard, June 22, 2011
