Terrance Hennessy conducting the 11 a.m. services in Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery in Postville with the Schutte Funeral service of Postville in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Leonard Althouse, Eugene Mork, Marvin Berg, Wayne Timmerman, Harlan Foels, and Leo Foels.
Helga Marie, daughter of Fred J. and Louise (Brockmeyer) Martens, on September 2, 1904 near Castalia, Iowa in Winneshiek County, Iowa. She attended Oak Hill School, Castalia School, and graduated from Postville High School in 1922. She also attended college for one year in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Before her marriage to Clinton Elmer Smith on September 19, 1930 in Caledonia, Minnesota, she taught school for six years. They lived on a farm near Yellow River and in 1948 moved to their present farm north of Postville, Iowa. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and had been a member of Community Presbyterian church since 1941.
Helga Smith died January 10, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Lester Martens and Edward Martens.
She is survived by her husband, Clinton; a daughter Kay * married name not given, and place of residence was not listed *, a grandson, and a great-granddaughter; a brother Arthur Martens of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and a sister, Ruby Turner of Postville, Iowa.
