Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Winnifred Beatrice Huffman, age 94, of Rossville, Iowa were held Friday, September 21 at the Martin Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Jacobson conducting the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were Ronald Adam, Elmer Rush, Arvid Leas, Doug Kubitz, Eldo Roffman, and Bud Mitchell.
A lifetime area resident, Winnifred "Winnie" Beatrice, daughter of George and Effie (Cassada) Kuehne, was born September 14, 1896 in Rossville, Iowa. She attended the Rossville School. On December 23, 1913 she and L. Earl Huffman were married in Waukon, Iowa. They operated a grocery store and locker in Rossville, Iowa.
Winnie was a lifetime member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church where she held various offices and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Rebekah Lodge and a former member of Waukon Relief Corps.
Winnifred died Tuesday, September 18, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl, who died November 4, 1969; a son Vernon "Mickey" Huffman who died in 1986; a grandson, Earl James Cahalan; two great-grandchildren, Monica McGeough and Maurice McGeough; a brother Cleo Kuehne; and 2 sisters, Ita Sawvell and Pearl Stahl.
Winnie is survived by her daughter, Gretta May (Woodrow) Cahalan of East Moline, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Vivian Huffman of Waukon, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Janice McGeough, Cheryl Neels, and Jack Cahalan; 16 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Arietta Opfer of Lawndale, California.
