Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for John Thomas Hennessy, age 75, of Lansing, Iowa, were held Friday, November 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Father Herbert Tegeler officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery with Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Todd Wieser, Matt Wieser, Mike Wieser, Dan Hennessy, Pat Hennessy and Jason Edwards.
John Thomas Hennessy was born April 15, 1922 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa to John L. and Ellen (Gavin) Hennessy. John spent his early years in the Waukon and Harpers Ferry areas. He graduated from the Waukon High School in 1940. On June 27, 1944 he married Hazel Moore in New Albin, Iowa. They farmed in rural Lansing, Iowa for 35 years. John also drove a school bus for Eastern Allamakee Community School District for many years. He was a member of Lansing Senior Citizens, serving as president for the past year.
John died Monday, November 10, 1997 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wiscoinsin. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hazel who died March 29, 1995; 2 brothers James Hennessy and William L. Hennessy; and 3 sisters, Marcella Keenan, Mary Nelson, and Rita McGeough.
John T. Hennessy is survived by his 5 children, Sheila (Richard) Wieser of LaCrescent, Minnesota, David (Joan) Hennessy of Ankeny, Iowa, Terry (Joan) Hennessy of Lansing, Iowa, Sandy (Greg) Edwards of Coppell, Texas, and Kevin (Joy) Hennessy of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 24 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Regina (Ralph) Gamboni of Chicago, Illinois and Thelma (Leo) Moore of Snohomish, Washington.
