Funeral services for Luella Gilbertson, age 83, of Waukon, Iowa were held Monday January 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Bachman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Gene Thorpe, Gene Johnson, Ron Reetz, Gaylen Gilbertson, Walter Johnson, and Alfred Olson.

Luella was born March 25, 1906 on the family farm near Lansing, Iowa to John and Marie (Berg) Johnson. She attended Fagre Prairie rural school near Lansing through the eighth grade. On November 10, 1926 she married Paul Gilbertson in Waterville, Iowa. In 1963 they moved to Waukon from the farm east of Waukon, Iowa. Paul died May 21, 1976. For several years she worked as a cook at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was a member of OWPC and various women's groups at the church. She also did volunteer work at Good Samaritan and the Allamakee County Care Facility for over 25 years. She had been a resident of Good Sam since October.

Luella died Friday January 12, 1990 at Veteran Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Amanda Fritz and Jeanette Olsen and 3 brothers, Nels Johnson, Hjalmer Johnson, and Marcus Johnson.

Luella is survived by her 2 daughters, Marcella (Merton) Iverson of Decorah, Iowa and Violet (Virgil) Reetz of Waterloo, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Larry Klooster, Randy Klooster, and Marilyn Klooster; 4 great-grandchildren, Adam Iverson, Sarah Iverson, Kirk Klooster, and Kent Klooster; a sister, Gladys Iseli of Waukon, Iowa; and 3 brothers, Norris Johnson of Waukon, Iowa, Leonard Johnson and Selmer Johnson, both of Lansing, Iowa.
