Urban Magner, age 95, of Waukon, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 5, 1999 at the Waukon Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Wednesday, September 8 at 11 a.m. The Right Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Mark Schaul, Mike Schaul, Matt Drew, Brian Drew, Jamie Riley, Darren Magner, and Kerry Magner. Honorary pallbearers were Urban's granddaughters.

Urban was born August 3, 1904 to Will and Katie (Carolan) Magner of rural Waukon, Iowa. He attended grade school in Allamakee County, then completed Continued Education at Valders College in Decorah, Iowa. On May 2, 1933 Urban was united in marriage to Lillian Howes in a ceremony held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. The couple operated a farm in the West Ridge area until 1979 when they moved to Waukon. Urban was involved in Allamakee County Farm Bureau and was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church in West Ridge and later of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa.

Urban was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian who died on September 11, 1994; 3 brothers, Leo Magner, John Magner, and Walter Magner, and one grandson, Kevin Magner.

Urban is survived by his children Lorraine Drew of Waukon, Iowa, Delores (Norman) Schaul of Waterloo, Iowa, Kay (Ralph) Mettille of Lansing, Iowa, Jim (Rose) Magner, Frank Magner, and Larry (Julie) Magner, all of Waukon, Iowa; 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Bea Fahey of Waukon, Iowa and 1 brother Paul Magner of Marion, Iowa.
