Funeral services for Stella Lillian Maples, age 84, of Waukon, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 21 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Rev. Lynn Groe officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Homer, Michigan with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Paul Eiken, Roger Kolseth, Duane Moen, Robert Opfer, Kelly Lang, and Scott Lang.

Stella was born April 30, 1906 in Chester, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Lotvedt) Moen. The family moved to Ossian, Iowa where she graduated from the Ossian High School. Later she attended Gundersen Lutheran Nurses Training in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. On July 4, 1933 she married Lysander Earle Maples at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. She worked as a registered nurse in Detroit, Michigan. She also worked for the Red Cross and did volunteer work in Germany where he husband was stationed during World War II. After returning to the United States they lived in Marshall, Michigan. Lysander died July 18, 1953. She had lived in Waukon, Iowa the last 17 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its altar guild, a former Sunday School teacher in Michigan and had done volunteer work at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa.

Stella died Tuesday, September 18, 1990 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Elmer Moen and a sister, Gladys Kolseth.

She is survived by her 8 sisters and brothers: Amy Buddenberg of Mesa, Arizona, Agnes Ginapp of Decorah, Iowa, Jean Colburn of Winona, Minnesota, Angeline (Roger) Bacon of Mabel, Minnesota, Marcella (Ed) Opfer of Waukon, Iowa, Willie Moen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Leo Moen of Decorah, Iowa and Walter Moen of Encinata, California.
