While returning to his home in Jefferson Township, two miles north of Rossville, on Tuesday night last, with lumber, Ole Nelson Shervin, in crossing a rough place in the road near Whaley's Mills, above Village Creek, lost his balance and was thrown suddenly to the ground with great force, falling between the front and hind wheels. The unfortunate man held the lines in his hand at the time, and fell in such a manner that his breast was immediately behing the fore wheel. The sudden jerk of the lines caused the team to back and the wheel was forced against and partially over the prostrate man, crushing his ribs and injuring him internally to such a degree that death resulted on Monday.
The deceased was aged about 43 years, and leaves a wife and five children, the oldest but 14 years of age, to mourn his loss. He was under the professional care of Dr. Brown, of Rossville.
