Violet Genevieve Hangartner

Violet Geneveive Hangartner, 93, Postville, Iowa, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at the home of her daughter on her home farm at Postville Junction in Postville, Iowa. She was born on March 9, 1918, in Elgin, Iowa, to Harry and Della Mae (Mathys) Miller. She was baptized on December 3, 1933, and confirmed on July 19, 1942. She graduated from Elgin Public School in 1937 and NICC in 1971 with her clerical degree.

Violet was united in marriage to Richard J. Hangartner on December 31, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Three children were born to this union. Richard and Violet lived on the family farm in Clermont Township, until they moved to Postville Junction in 1953. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and ELCW. She was always willing to help someone when they needed help. She enjoyed making rugs, sewing and spending time with her family. She worked at Pine Motel and the Auction Lounge in Postville and later managed it as the Gaslite Lounge.

Survivors include her three daughters, Julienne Wander, Clermont, Linda (Ronald) Sanborn, Cedar Rapids, Peggy Hangartner, Postville; nine grandchildren, Jay (Vanessa) Rekow, Katie (Kent) Schupbach, Shaun Rekow, Jason (Ida) Hangartner, David Sanborn, Andy (fiance Michelle) Sanborn, Kelly (Rose) Wander, Kyle (Kathy) Wander, Kim Wander; twenty great-grandchildren, Brieanna, Tanner, and Layla Rekow, Ava, Ella, Brody, and Brynly Schupbach, Logan, Morgan, Ethan, and Lucy Hangartner, Steven, Nick, Johnathon, Hope Daniel, and Brendan Wander, Josh, Jessica, and Christopher Wander.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Della Miller; her husband, Richard Hangartner; two grandson, Aiden Rekow, Christopher Rekow; seven sisters, Gertrude, Doris, Gladys, Cora LaVon, Shirley, Margaret, June; two brothers, Clifton and Clarence and one son-in-law, James Wander.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Grand Meadow Cemetery in rural Postville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011, from 2-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church.
