David B. Wendel, 69, of Lansing died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was at May’s Prairie cemetery in rural Lansing.
David Benjamin Wendel was born July 22, 1941 in Waukon, the son of Kermit and Opal (Riser) Wendel. He attended local schools and graduated from Lansing High School in 1959. He lived his entire life on his family’s home farm near Churchtown. In addition to farming with his dad, he also drove school bus for over 20 years, drove a milk truck for a creamery in Ferryville, WI, and owned his own portable saw mill to saw lumber in the area. David was a member of the Farm Bureau and in the summer mowed the May’s Prairie Cemetery for many years.
Survivors include two brothers, Jay Wendel of Stewart, FL and Gary (Diane) Wendel of Waverly; two sisters, Ruth Stewart and Ruby Gordon, both of Lansing; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers were Bob Leppert, Curt Gramlich, Josh Kelly, Harlan Steiber, Darrel Lee, Jason Gordon and Tim Gordon.
