Funeral services for Marilyn Jean Clark, age 65, lifetime Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa resident, were held Sunday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, Iowa. The service was conducted by Rev. Dean Shelly and Verdon Swenson with burial in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were Jim Garrett, Bill Roe, Jr., John Simmons, Harva Oelberg, Leland Walby, and Lanny Marting.

Marilyn Jean Clark died suddenly at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on Wednesday, June 17, 1992. She was born April 9, 1927 in the Postville Hospital in Postville, Iowa to Earl Frederick and Marion Amber (Stock) Miller. She attended school at the Cherry Valley School and Franklin #7 rural schools before graduating from the Luana High School in 1944. Following graduation she attended the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa for three years studying Christian Education and music. Marilyn married Lloyd Virgil Clark on August 10, 1947 at the Monona Methodist Church. Aside from one year of teaching, she spent her working life raising her family and helping on the family farm with her husband.

Marilyn was very active in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, Iowa where she held several positions and offices as well as being involved in United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Allamakee County Historical Society, spending a lot of time with the last issue of "The History of Allamakee County". She was active in Farm Bureau and extension since 1948 and had helped organize the Allamakee County RAVE contest and ran that event for several years. Marilyn was also a former Cherry Valley 4-H Club leader, a member of Post-Franklin Study Club and Franklin Homemakers, and very active in the local Republican Party.

Marilyn was perhaps best known for her work with quilting. She was a member of Northeast Iowa Quilters Guild, American Quilters Society, Iowa Quilt Guild, and Cable Car Quilt Guild. She often spoke to various groups in the area about quilting and was commissioned often to make quilts for people all over the country. Her friends will remember her for the many kindnesses she showed, her willingness to help in time of need, and the many, many letters and cards she sent.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; 4 daughters, Jane (Larry) Lamborn of Luana, Iowa, Nancy (Larry) Straate of Waukon, Iowa, Dianne (Randy) Rissman of Postville, Iowa, and Carolyn Clark of Dubuque, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Alan Lamborn, Lori Lamborn, Mark Lamborn, Sara Straate, Amy Straate, Shelby Straate, and Robin Rissman; 3 brothers Kermit (Cathy) Miller of Postville, Iowa, Frederick Miller of Waukon, Iowa, and Roger (Donna) Miller of Clermont, Iowa, and a sister Ruth (Richard) Quandahl of Waukon, Iowa in addition to nieces and nephews.
