Dorothy Mae Gronna, age 77, of Waukon, Iowa, died October 7, 1999 at her daughter's home in Waterloo, Iowa following a brief illness. Funeral services were held October 11 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe and Rev. David E. Schafer officiating. Burial followed in the East Paint Creek Synod Cemetery, Waterville, Iowa. Casket bearers were Robert, John, and Peter Grangaard, Beth Rosenberg, Amy Anderson, Carrie Langan, Audrey Schmidt, Peter Sweeney, Amy Urell, Katie Caswell, and Patrick, Ryan, Bobby, Sheridan and Rose Gronna. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born October 29, 1921 in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of William and Caroline (Northrup) Sheridan. By the time she was 14 both of her parents had died and she moved to Trenton, Michigan where she was raised by friends Lester and Kathryn Lyle. Dorothy was baptized and later confirmed in Ames, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Trenton, Michigan and attended Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa where she studied child development. On January 24, 1942 she married Robert F. Gronna at the Lutheran Church in Wyandotte, Michigan. Together they farmed for many years in the Waterville, Iowa area. Dorothy moved to Waukon shortly after Robert's death in 1993. She was active in the St. John's Lutheran Church and its Hannah circle, as well as a member of the Thursday Club. This past year she had lived with her daughter Pat in Waterloo, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, her brother Bill Sheridan and granddaughter Amy Anderson.

She is survived by 2 daughters Nancy (Orrin) Grangaard of Waukon, Iowa and Pat (Stan) Anderson of Waterloo, Iowa; 1 son Tom (Heidi) Gronna of Tomahawk, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Harris of Grosse Isle, Michigan.
