Michael Fleming, one of the oldest and most highly respected Citizens of Grand Meadow township, Clayton Co. passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 1906 a the home of his son, B. C. Fleming after a two weeks illness, in his 93rd year. His death was due to no specific ailment but to a general wearing out of a once rugged constitution after an active life of many years, and it is said until his latest illness the old gentleman had never known a sick day in all his life. He was born in Ireland, May 6, 1813, and emigrated to the United States in April 1838, settling in New York. In 1840 he was married to Mary Condon, to which union were born ten children. Gradually moving Westward he came to Chicago in 1850, and in June 1856 he moved to Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, Iowa, settling on the farm that was his home until his death. He is survived by 8 children, 28 grand children and 26 great grand children, the wife and two children having preceded him to the farther shore, The funeral was held from the Catholic church at Clermont, Tuesday, Jan. 30th, and the large attendance of sympathizing friends present fully attested the high esteem in which deceased was held. Interment at Clermont.
