Lenora Dorothea Heins

Lenora Dorothea Heins, the daughter of John H. and Amelia H. Panncke Heins, was born December 19, 1903, on a farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County near Castalia, Iowa. She died Wednesday, May 22, 1996 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was 92 years old.

She was baptized by the Reverend Bockelmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and was confirmed by the Reverend Harms at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia in April of 1917. Lenora attended school in Bloomfield Township.

After the death of her father in 1927, Lenora and her mother moved to Postville. Lenora was employed by the Farmers Telephone Company in Postville for 31 years. Following that she worked as a receptionist for Dr. M. F. Schlein for 12 and a half years, retiring in 1973. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center on April 2, 1996. Lenora was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted person who loved animals, especially her dog, Chi Chi. She also loved to embroider and crochet and to work in her flower garden. Some of her other interests were reading, working crossword puzzles and playing cards.

She is preceded in death by her father, John, who died in 1927 and her mother, Amelia, who died in 1960, a sister, Gertrude and a sister who died in infancy.

Surviving are several cousins and many special friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 24, 1996 at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Wayne Hagen, Interim Pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiated. Joann Martins was the organist. Honorary casket bearers were James Lennon, Donald Rose, Wanda Schlein, Kathleen Rose, Linda Mundt and Leonard Koenig. Casket bearers were Randy Plaht, Larry Schultz, Dr. W. H. Armentrout, Craig Mundt, Charles Fishback and David Schutte. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
