Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 29 for Rose Mary Schellhammer, age 72, who died Monday, August 27, 1990 at her rural Waukon, Iowa home. The Rev. Henry Heinbuch conducted the 1:30 p.m. services at Zion United Church of Christ. Burial was in the Lansing Ridge Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Glenn, Harlan, and Ralph Schellhammer, Francis Weipert, Russell Fulghum, and Bill Fulghum. Honorary pallbearers were Lynn Halverson, Delbert Fiet, Ernest Schellhammer, Harvey Rissman, and Leslie Meyer, Sr.
Rose Mary was born June 12, 1918 in Park Rapids, Minnesota to Clark and Mabel (Suhring) Fulghum. After her father's death in the late 1920's she moved to northeast Iowa with her mother. She attended school in Postville, Iowa and Garnavillo, Iowa where they lived before moving to Waukon, Iowa. She graduated from the Waukon High School in 1935 and took courses at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and Upper Iowa College in Fayette, Iowa.
On December 25, 1941 she and Morris Schellhammer were married in Decorah, Iowa. For over 30 years she taught elementary and handicapped students in Waukon and St. Patrick's schools and at TASC. She also worked at the Waukon Public Library for many years. She did volunteer work for handicapped persons in the area. She was a member of the Zion UCC where she was a former Sunday School teacher and active in circles, and the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Morris, 2 sons Owen Schellhammer of Elkader, Iowa and Gary Schellhammer of Waukon, Iowa and 4 grandchildren.
