Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 21 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion, Iowa for Craig Alan Martins, age 39, of Marion, Iowa who died Saturday May 18, 1996 at his home following a short illness. Rev. Gary Blobaum and Rev. Charles Colberg officiated. Graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon in the St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery in Luana, Iowa.

Craig was born December 4, 1956 in Postville, Iowa to Carlton and Joanne (Grotegut) Martins. He graduated from the Postville High School in 1975 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1980. He married Carole Lukavsky on November 3, 1984 in Washington, Iowa. He was a sales manager at Dale Lee Distributing Company since 1981. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marion. He had been the assistant mens basketball coach at Kirkwood Community College, was active in several area softball leagues, and had helped through Dale Lee to organize numerous charitable events.

A memorial fund has been established. A sports memorial fund has also been established by the family for the Postville School.

Craig was preceded in death by his father, Carlton Martins, his paternal grandparents Gerwin and Mabel (Schlitter) Martins and maternal grandfather, Walter Grotegut.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; 2 daughters, Kelsey and Katie; his mother and step-father, Joanne and Lyle Groth of Postville, Iowa; his grandmother, Evangeline (Lester) Teslow of Waukon, Iowa; step-grandparents, Fred and Dorothy Groth of Postville, Iowa; a sister, Cathy (Randy) Noecker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 2 brothers, Steven (Betty) Martins of Gainesville, Florida and Jeff (Katie) Martins of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; a step-brother, Greg Groth of Chappaal, New Mexico; 2 step-sisters, Julie Brainard of Postville, Iowa and Sharyl Ferrall of Chickaloon, Alaska; a sister-in-law, Theresa (Ken) Finch of Sioux City, Iowa; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Lukavsky of Washington, Iowa; 3 nieces, Kirsten, Kari, and Kylie and 2 nephews, Steven Jay and David; two special friends, Richard Traub of Wilmette, Illinois and Fran Wilcox of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and all of Craig's associates at Dale Lee Distributing.
