Rites Held For Mrs. Sebastian

Mrs. John Sebastian, nee Lena Harnack, the daughter of Joseph Harnack and Caroline Schmidt Harnack, was born on September 29, 1887, at Clayton Center. On March 31, 1901, she was confirmed into the Christian faith. She died at the Fritz Nursing Home at Nashua, on June 30 1968, following a lingering illness at the age of 80 years, nine months, and one day.

She was united in marriage to John Sebastian of Postville, on February 6, 1907. They were the parents of three children: Herman, Victor, and Shirley.

The couple lived on a farm in Winneshiek county until 1919 when they moved to Allamakee county in December, 1919. In 1937, they retired to Postville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harnack; her husband, John Sebastian, on December 6, 1958; one son, Herman, who died in infancy; also five brothers: Christ, Lester, and Joe, all of Postville; John of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Fred of Waukon; three sisters: Anna, Mrs. Henry Mohs, of Postville; Mrs. Laura Schmidt of Owantonna, Minnesota; and Mrs. Emma Eberling of Postville.

Lena Sebastian is survived by one son, Victor, of Postville; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Shirley) Monroe, of Postville; also five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Henry Block, of Cedar Rapids, and one brother, Louis, of Castalia. There are many nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, and a member of the Women's Association.

Funeral services for Mrs. John Sebastian were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, on Wednesday, July 3, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Walter Martin officiating. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
