Funeral services were held Monday, February 15, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa for Maxine Green, age 71, who died at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa on Thursday February 11, 1999. Pastors Bill and Kristine Schroeder officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Neale Downing, Dean Downing, Bill Downing, Serenus Eglseder, Gary Downing, Robert Downing, and Francis Eglseder. Burial was at the Smithfield Cemetery at Volney, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa handled the arrangements.

Maxine was born January 2, 1928 at Waukon, Iowa to Seth Albert "Bert" and Ethel Fern (Henderson) Stafford. She graduated from the Waukon High School in 1945 and attended the Waukon Junior College. She married Carlton David Hexon. He died in August of 1964. Following his death, she married Lewis Green on November 16, 1964 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader, Iowa. Maxine owned and operated Maxine's Antiques and Granny Green's. Later, she worked at the Miss Marquette River Boat Casino and the Fast Track in Elkader, Iowa. Her hobbies included antigues, sewing, crocheting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and bowling. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Carlton David Hexom; a son, Carl David Hexom; 4 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Hulda Clara Stafford who died in infancy, Betty Ann Stafford who died at the age of two, and Bernice (Stafford) Downing.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis; 3 daughters and their husbands, Carol Lou Ann and Craig Schultz of Shell Rock, Iowa, Joan Corrine and Jud Francis of Monona, Iowa, and Jean Charlene and Robert Walton of Chicago, Illinois; 12 grandchildren, Carlton David and James Hexom, Joshua, Nicholas and Nathan Schultz, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jacob, and Jillian Francis, Xavier, Galen, and Troy Walton; 2 great-grandchildren Stephanie Francis and Shane Hexom; a sister, Madonna Syverson of Elkader, Iowa and a host of other relatives and friends.
