Gloria D. Jackson, 56, of Waukon died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29 at Center Baptist Church in rural Lansing, with Pastor Danny Volbrecht officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, rural Lansing.
Gloria Dawn Jackson was born July 26, 1954 in Waukon, the daughter of Lyle and Wilma (Tolander) Jackson. She was baptized at Center Baptist Church in rural Lansing. Gloria attended Waukon Schools and graduated from Waukon High School in 1972. She also graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN in 1976 with a B.S. degree. Gloria spent her life as a caregiver and was always reaching out to those who were in need. Her many talents included cooking, baking and catering, along with singing, writing and being interested in many people's lives.
Gloria was a member of Center Baptist Church, where she was very active and loved the Lord. She volunteered in Christian Women’s Club, Farm Bureau, the Allamakee Historical Society, the Food Shelf and the Ecumenical Choir. Each year she would coordinate the Samaritan’s Purse project in the local area in memory of her sister, Juli. As a result, she contributed to thousands of needy children around the world receiving a Christmas shoebox gift. Gloria was the family’s historian and a proud Swede. Her love of travel took her to many places, and she especially enjoyed her trips to Sweden.
Survivors include two sisters, Dolly “Joy” Anderson of Dallas, TX and Darla (David) Anderson of Hudson, IL; two brothers, Gary Jackson and Dean (Mary) Jackson, both of Waukon; a step-brother, Lyle (Phyllis) Jackson of West Union; a brother-in-law, Elliott Wolfson of Waukon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, JuliAnn Wolfson; a step-brother, Donald Jenkins; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Jackson.
Casketbearers were Scott and Mark Anderson, Lyle Eric, Joe and Joshua Jackson, Jason Kopischke, Charles Jenkins, Elliott Wolfson, George Efferm, John Payne and Roger Ericson.
