Everett McKee

Everett C. McKee, 89, of Waukon and formerly of Postville, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, January 31 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, with Pastor Steve Brackett officiating. Burial was at Postville Cemetery.
Everett Charles McKee was born April 11, 1921 at Lansing, the son of John T. and Florence C. (Orrben) McKee. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing. He grew up in Lansing and attended area grade and high schools.
November 19, 1947 he married Marie Klees at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lansing. He farmed with his parents until 1949, when he and Marie started farming on their own near Postville. In 1960 they bought a farm south of Castalia which they farmed until 1974 when they moved to an acreage known as Durno Park near Postville. In 2007 they moved to Waukon.
Everett enjoyed carpentry for both work and pleasure. For over 20 years he tapped the maple trees at Durno Park and produced Maple Syrup. He also enjoyed fishing, beekeeping, gardening and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Marie McKee of Waukon; three sons, Jim McKee of Brookhaven, MS, John (Susan) McKee of Des Moines, and Don (Terri) McKee of Manchester; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Francis ‘Dutch’, Arthur, Ralph and Edwin McKee; and a sister, Laila Pape.
Casketbearers were Kevin McKee, Ryan McKee, Chad Opfer, Jack Heffern, Brad Kamaus, Alan Kamaus, Lyle Shafer and Kermit Klees.
