Mrs. Louis Heins

Mrs. Louis Heins, nee Louise Meiske, the daughter of William Meiske and Louise Whitcamp Meiske, was born in Laften, Westfalen, Germany on December 16, 1878. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Germany in 1878 and confirmed in 1893. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eli Eberling, on January 2, 1964, at the age of 85 years and 17 days.

She came to this country in 1896, at the age of 18, and settled in Postville. She was married to Louis Heins on January 26, 1899. To this union were born eight children. After their marriage they lived in Postville for one year, then moved to a farm in Post township, where they farmed for 50 years. Her husband died in 1945, and she moved to Postville to make her home in 1950.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Ruby; one son, Louis; five sisters, Jennie of Chicago, and Lottie, Minnie, Annie and Sophie in Germany; and four brothers, Christ of Hartley, Iowa, Fred of Dubuque, Iowa, and William and Louis in Germany.

She is survived by four sons, Victor of West Union, Elmer F. of Postville, Lester of LaCrosse, and Virgil of Oelwein; two daughters, Lillian, Mrs. Lester Martins of Oelwein and Esther, Mrs. Eli Eberling of Postville; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville. Interrment was in the Postville cemetery with The Rev. Charles E. Witt, Pastor of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, officiating.
