Funeral services for Leander Henningsgaard, age 77, of Waukon, Iowa, were scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 at 1:30 from Zalmona Presbyterian Church, rural Waukon, Iowa. The Rev. James Jacobson of Zalmona officiated. Burial was in the Zalmona Church cemetery with military rites at graveside. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Dave Flage, Jr., Wayne Fish, William Huffman, Ken Flage, Calvin Bechtel, and Ken O'Brien.

Leander died Monday, January 20, 1986 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. He was born October 5, 1908 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He was born October 5, 1908 in Winneshiek County, the son of Ole and Sophia (Selness) Henningsgaard. He received his education in the local schools. He served in the Army in World War II and was a combat veteran, having earned the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of the American Legion. On February 18, 1947 he married Mildred Flage in Allamakee County, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by one sister and 4 brothers; Gladys Wiebecker, Arnold Henningsgaard, Harold Henningsgaard, Clarence Henningsgaard, and Olaf Henningsgaard.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; a son, Donald Henningsgaard; a grandchild; 2 brothers, Myron Henningsgaard of Decorah, Iowa and John Henningsgaard of California; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Ruth Heuss, Amanda Henningsgaard, and Mrs. Frank (Viola) Toth, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
