Waukon Attorney Arthur E. Sheridan, age 90, died Monday, November 17, 1986 in Waukon, Iowa. Services will be held Friday, November 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed W. Lechtenberg officiating. Hanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearer was Alden Larson and casket bearers were William T. Skemp, Patrick S. Cunningham, Arthur E. Sheridan II, Shawn Sheridan, Michael Sheridan, and Jeffrey Sheridan. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon, Iowa.

Arthur Edward Sheridan was born February 2, 1896 in Hancock County, Britt, Iowa to Patrick and Margaret (Canty) Sheridan. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and graduated from Notre Dame. He began his law practice in 1918 with William S. Hart in Waukon, Iowa. On June 21, 1921 he married Cecilia Lee in Waukon, Iowa. They celebrated 65 years of marriage June 21 of this year.

A. E. Sheridan was a practicing trial lawyer for 68 years and wore a fresh flower in his lapel every day for more than 50 years. He was also known as an avid horseman. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was a member of the American Bar Association, American Judicature Society of America, Trial Lawyers Association of America, Iowa State Bar Association, and the Allamakee County Bar Association.

He was admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court on the same day as his son, Lee. He was also admitted to practice in the following courts: U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Iowa, the Southern District of Iowa, Western Wisconsin and Minnesota, U.S. Court of Military Appeals, U.S. Emergency Court of Appeals, U.S. Court of Appeals, U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

He was preceded in death by his son Arthur Lee Sheridan, 2 brothers, Eugene Sylvester Sheridan, and John Francis Sheridan and 4 sisters, Glenne Barnice Spangler, Margaret Maude Meleney, Irene Rownd, and Mabel G. Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife, Cecelia; 2 daughters, Mary Eleanore Cunningham and Dorothy Ann Terhune; 7 grandchildren: Patrick S. and Cecilia Cunningham, Arthur E. Sheridan II, Roxanne, Shawn, Michael, and Jeffrey Sheridan; and 5 great-grandchildren: Emily, Patrick, Jr., and John Cunningham, and Mary Cunningham and Meghan Sheridan.
