McDaneld, age 86, a resident of Postville, Iowa for more than 80 years passed away last Thursday noon, June 7, 1945 at Waukon, Iowa in the home of Mrs. Vesta Carlson, who had been caring for her the past several months. Miss McDaneld held the longest continuous residence in Postville at the time of her passing on. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 11, in the Schutte Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Haddock, pastor of the United Brethren Church. officiating. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Miss McDaneld was born in Clarence, Missouri, on December 29, 1858, the daughter of A.W. McDaneld and Mary (Worrell) McDaneld. She came to Postville with her parents in 1865. She united with the Methodist Church in Postville when she was 16 years old and was corresponding secretary of the Methodist Women's Foreign Missionary Society for 20 years. Seldon absent from church services, she was faithful i n church work, ever ready to help the needy. Her life was one of faithful service. After the merger of the Methodist Church and Congregational churches, she became affliated with the Community Presbyterian Church. She remained a member until her passing on.

Miss McDaneld's parents passed away when she was a small child. To a large degree she assumed the care of her sisters, who she lovingly attended. All who knew her, loved her and she will live long in their memory as a good Christian woman, a good citizen, and a neighbor.

Miss McDaneld is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Laura Angell of Postville, Iowa and Mrs. Edith Miner of Lancaster, California, also 2 nieces, Miss Myra Angell of Independence, Iowa and Mrs. William Rolly of Des Moines, Iowa.

Note: A.W. McDaneld's full name was Asa Wright McDaneld. He was born April 4, 1835 at Jefferson or Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana. He died July 14, 1897 in Postville, Iowa. He married Mary Worrell in 1857. The McDanelds were in Linn County, Iowa in 1861 and moved to Postville about 1864 or 1865. According to his obituary, his wife Mary died, perhaps after giving birth to Laura or at a later time. Asa married 2 more times and had 5 more children (at least one was a son). Daughter Edith, as listed in Mary McDaneld's obituary, perhaps was born to one of the other wives. But based on Mary's obituary, Mary was responsible for helping raise her siblings.

In the Woodmansee Cemetery information, Mary E. McDaneld is listed as Mary E. McDonald, Her date of birth is given as December 29, 1868 but that is also incorrect. It should be December 29, 1858.
