Harry Emmert Leiran of Waterville, Iowa died Monday, December 14, 1987 at Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 17 at 1 p.m. at East Paint Creek Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark De Garmeaux officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Allen, Gene and Steven Leiran, Lowell Monroe, Ted Lockard and Rudy Hesla. Honorary pallbearers were Holger Busness, Rudolph Dehli, Nennor Sorum, Melvin Anderson, Vic Halverson, and Ordell Bjerke.

Emmert was born February 26, 1899 in Allamakee County to Erik and Hilda (Uglum) Leiran. He attended local schools in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. On September 1, 1920 he married Nora Busness in Waterville, Iowa. She died September 18, 1963. He was a member of East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church and operated Leiran's General Store in Waterville, Iowa for 36 years. He was a school custodian for 17 years in Waterville.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mathilda Fredendall and Selena Busness; 10 brothers, Mike Leiran, Selmer Leiran, Martin Leiran, Ole Leiran, Leonard Leiran, John Leiran, Melvin Leiran, and half brothers Oscar Swain, Julius Swain, and Hjalmer Swain and two half sisters, Hannah Halvorson and Emma Hagemeier.

Surviving are 3 sons, Norman Leiran and Willard Leiran of Waterville, Iowa and Richard Leiran of Geneva; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Freda Grant of Waukon, Iowa.
