Funeral services for Leonard J. Stortz, age 85, who died at his home in Waukon, Iowa Friday August 14, 1987 were held Tuesday, August 17. Father Ed Lechtenberg officiated at the 11 a.m. service held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon, Iowa. Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Brian and Steve Stortz, Jeff Schirm, and David, James, and Tom Akre.

Leonard was born September 20, 1901 in Winneshiek County to Charles and Louise (Schissel) Stortz. On April 3, 1923 he married Vera Stoskopf at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa. He was a farmer and a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, and 10 brothers and sisters; Ernest in infancy, Theodore Stortz, Eugene Stortz, Carl Stortz, Louis Stortz, Raymond Stortz, Monica Lansing, Laura Stortz, Mary Lansing, and Lucy Stortz.

Survivors include his wife, Vera; five children: Margaret, Francis, and James, all of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Ronald (Elizabeth) Akre of Decorah, Iowa and Mrs. Russell (Patricia) Schirm of Marion, Iowa; 34 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a brother Alfred Stortz and 2 sisters, Florence Stortz of Decorah, Iowa and Lillian Collins of Baltimore, Maryland.
