Diedrich Friedrich Ludwig Eberling was born in Schessinghausen, Germany, Sept. 22, 1858, and died at his home in Postville, Iowa, Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 1912, aged 74 years, 1 month and 16 days, death resulting from a paralytic stroke with which he was stricken shortly afternoon of the day preceding his demise.

He was married to Louise Meyer and to this union were born eight children, three of whom died. May 10, 1870 he emigrated to America, settling first near Guttenberg, then near Giard and in 1879 moved to this vicinity and later moving to Postville. He was a hard working and saving man and by his frugality had laid by a sufficiency to spend his declining years in comfort.

He is survived by his wife, three sons-Fred, William and John, and two daughters-Mrs (Amelia)Christ F. Harnack and Matilda.

The funeral was held from the Lutheran church Sunday morning last at 11 o’clock, Rev. R. Kuehne officiating, and a large gathering present fully attested the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment in the Postville cemetery.

The Obituary in the Postville Review for Diedrich Friedrich Ludwig Eberling had Fritz's birthdate as 1858. His obituary in the Postville Volksblatt had his birthdate as "Er mar geboren am 22. September 1838 zu Scherringhuafen, Deutjchland" 1838 is the correct date.
