Mark K. Corrigan, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed into eternity Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, surrounded by his family. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends may also visit Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Fern of Cedar Rapids; children, Rae (Tim) Lesmeister of Minnetonka, Minn., Jeanne Shields, Mark A. (Kellie) Corrigan, Dolora (Tobin) Michael, Denise Bates, Loren (Susan) Corrigan, Brian (Kathy) Corrigan, Deborah Corrigan and Alane (Ladd) Wessels, all of Cedar Rapids; and 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mark K. Corrigan, one of 11 sons, was born March 6, 1930, in La Crosse, Wis., to the late James V. and Rose (McCormick) Corrigan. Also surviving are brothers, Mike, Cyril (Jean), Gerald, John (Lois), Pat, Bob (Peg), and Richard (Elaine); and sister-in-law, Dee Ann.

Mark was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Wayne and Jim (Doc); and his sisters-in-law, Eleanor, LaVerle, LaVonne and Anne.

He graduated from Waterville Consolidated High School. Mark was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He married Fern Rae McCormick on July 25, 1953, in Cherry Mound. Mark worked for the Cedar Rapids Police Department for 31 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1991.

Mark was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Legion Hanford Post 5, Knights of Columbus 909, Eagles No. 0692, and the Cedar Rapids Policeman’s Protective Association.

He passed on his love of the outdoors and Northeast Iowa to his children, creating many happy memories camping, fishing, and hunting in Yellow River Forest and at the family’s nearby farm. He enjoyed singing and playing music with his brothers, including performances at the Red Lion, where his daughter Denise works. His mechanical aptitude was appreciated by many as they stopped by his garage to work on cars and machinery.
