Funeral services were held Saturday, May 9 for Francis "Frank" J. Mellick, age 80, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin who died Tuesday, May 5, 1987 in Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The Rev. Joseph Hirsch officiated at the 10 a.m. service held in the Schumacher-Kish Funeral home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Entombment was in the Catholic mausoleum, with military rites at graveside.

Francis was born July 3, 1906 in Waukon, Iowa to Michael and Julia (Duffy) Mellick. He attended area schools. He married Margaret E. Delaney on August 7, 1945 in Waukon, Iowa. He had been a farmer, an employee of LaCrosse Rubber Mills and at the time of his retirement in 1971, he was employed by the Trane Company. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and was also a member of several Alcoholics Anonymous groups in LaCrosse for 36 years.

Preceding him in death were two sisters, Mary Ryan, and Margaret Howes and a brother, Donald Mellick.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Mary Jenks of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; a son Michael Mellick of Andover, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters, Loretta Collins, Regina Mahoney, and Marcella Johnson, all of Waukon, Iowa, Rita Nierling of Decorah, Iowa and Rosella Nierling and Pearl Weber, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two brothers, Leonard Mellick of Lansing, Iowa and Frank's twin brother, Leo Mellick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
