Robert Arthur Nierling, age 44, died Friday, September 12, 1986 at his home in Waukon, Iowa. Services were held Monday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in the Lycurgus Cemetery with graveside military services. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Greg, Bruce, and Tony Rosendahl, Raymond, Terry, and Jeff Snyder, and Chip Lamb.

Robert was born June 11, 1942 in Waukon, Iowa to Anton P. and Lenora Mae (Spores) Nierling. He was a member of St. Patrick's church. He was a lifetime area resident and attended local schools. He served in the Army and Army Reserve. He was a technical sergeant at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, George Nierling and David Nierling.

Survivors include two sons, Troy Nierling and Travis Nierling; his mother, Lenora; 4 brothers, Charles Nierling of Grants, New Mexico, Thomas Nierling of Greeley, Colorado, Lyle Nierling of Monona, Iowa, and Kenneth Nierling of Waukon, Iowa; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Jean) Lamb of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Eddie (Mary) Rosendahl, and Mrs. Betty Snyder, both of Spring Grove, Minnesota, and Mrs. Lee (Letha) Folsom of Waukon, Iowa.
