Margaret (Lea) Olson, age 83, of Waterville, Iowa died Wednesday, August 13, 1986 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. Services were held Friday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at Old East Paint Creek Church with the Rev. April Larson officiating. Burial was in the Old East Paint Creek Church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Christopher Ladd, Gilbert Lea, Joseph Lea, Anthony Lea, Eric Schroeder, and Jon Schroeder.

Margaret was born March 16, 1903 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Pastor Anton P. and Emilie (Melbye) Lea. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. She studied music at the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music at Milwaukee and attended the Christianson Choral School at Ephraim, Door County, Wisconsin. She taught in Wisconsin High Schools in Cornell, Belleville, Kewaskum, Waterford, Fort Atkinson, and DeSoto areas. While at Waterford, she directed the choir at the historic Old Muskego-Norway Lutheran Church. In Fort Atkinson she directed the choir of the First Methodist Church. On October 19, 1946 she married Hjalmar B. Olson at the Old East Paint Creek Church. Her father performed the ceremony in Norwegian. She served as the church organist at Old East Paint Creek Church for many years. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church Women. She was also a member of the Browning Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 15, 1986; 3 sisters, Florence Lea, Antoinette Lea, and Harriet Schroeder; and 2 brothers, Abraham Lea and Albert Lea.

Survivors include a brother Ambrose Lea of Waterville, Iowa and 2 sisters, Mrs. Christine Ladd and Mrs. Alvin (Adelaide) Aldrich, both of Waukon, Iowa.
