Hjalmar Bernard Olson, age 85, died Sunday morning, June 15, 1986 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Burial was Tuesday, June 17 in the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were his nephews Ralph Olson of Sparta, Wisconsin, Peter Bieber of Waukon, Iowa, George Huffey of Waterville, Iowa, Curtis Olson of Manchester, Iowa, James and Rodney Olson of Lansing, Iowa, Jack Frost of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Curtis Stavlo of West Salem, Wisconsin. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Anderson, Ronald Cline, Lester Thomson, Robert Gronna, and Ordell Sorenson.

Hjalmar was born June 16, 1900 on the "Century Farm" in Center Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to George B. and Inger (Kaasa) Olson where he had farmed after attending Dalby School and LaCrosse Business Institute. On October 19, 1966 he married Margaret Lea, eldest daughter of the Rev. A. P. Lea, who performed the ceremony in Norwegian at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Mr. Olson served his church as treasurer. He was a life-long member of the American Farm Bureau.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Percival "Willie" Olson and Evelyn Olson, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Walter (Tillie) Huffey, Mrs. Elmer (Gunda) Kolsrud, and Mrs. Henry (Inga) Kvamme.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret, and one sister, Mrs. Clara Fiet of New Ulm, Minnesota; 12 nieces and 15 nephews.

Note: The Waukon newspaper was in error concerning the marriage date for Hjalmar and Margaret (Lea) Olson. The corrected marriage date should be OCTOBER 19, 1946.
