Sophie C. Rissman, age 82, died Thursday, July 31, 1986 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. Services were held Saturday August 2 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa with the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Randy Rissman, Rick Rissman, Reg Rissman, Earl Erdenburg, Dale Murray, David Clason, Daniel Gallagher, Mark Verthein, and Wayne Verthein.

Sophie was born April 8, 1904 in Germany to Karl and Freda (Hechler) Vieth. She was educated in German schools and lived in Germany until she was 21 years old. She married Julius F. Rissman on January 6, 1926 in Waukon, Iowa. He died in August 1966. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Waukon Senior Citizens, Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and various church groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Karl Vieth and William Vieth.

Survivors include a son Herbert Rissman and a daughter, Mrs. Willard (Wilma) Verthein, both of Waukon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John (Martha) Schellhammer of Waukon, Iowa.
