Ann Schulte

Ann M. Schulte, 61, of Waukon died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held Monday, January 10 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Ann Marie Schulte was born June 22, 1949 on her parents' farm in rural Volga, the daughter of LeRoy and Gayle (Hulverson) Biedermann. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga and in 1968 was confirmed into the Catholic faith. Ann attended Volga Public School through eighth grade and graduated from Central Community School in 1967. After high school she went to work for Farmers Home Administration in Elkader.
December 28, 1968 she married Richard J. Schulte. They lived in Amana, where she worked at Utilities Works. In 1974 they moved to Waukon, where she was employed part-time at Waukon High School for a few years before she went to work for Zahn’s Plumbing and Heating for 26 years. Ann and Rich also started Schulte’s BBQ and Catering 30 years ago.
Ann was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Allamakee Antique Car Club. She was a volunteer at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon and was Rich’s right hand man for preparing for the Knights of Columbus breakfasts and special events. Ann cherished life and her many friends and family. She enjoyed baking and gardening and in later years she enjoyed doing word puzzles and watching sports. She will be sadly missed and leaving behind wonderful memories for all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of Waukon; a son, Kurt of Waukon; two daughters, Kara of Waukon and Karla (Kendall) Anderson of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Michael Schulte of Waukon, Trevor Snitker of Waukon, and Kaeleigh Ann Anderson of Waterloo; a sister, Connie (Job) Francis of Dubuque; three nephews, Jason of Dubuque, Mark (Deanna Nash) of Los Angeles, CA and Thomas of Woodbury, MN. She is also survived by a very special mother-in-law, Marguerite Schulte of Waukon; and several cousins, aunts and one uncle. She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, William Schulte.
Honorary casketbearers were Allamakee Antique Car Club members, her benefit committee, her card friends and monthly ladies group. Casketbearers were Bob Zahn, Jens Kallevang, Gary Rumph, Don Nagel, Ed Wikan, Tony Link and Ray O’Hare.
