Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Edmund W. Carroll, age 64, of New Albin, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 23, 1987 in Bethany-St. Joseph Nursing Home, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 26 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dan Jensen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites by the New Albin VFW. Casket bearers were David Darling, Jeff Middendorf, Howard Fitzpatrick, Robert Protsman, Ben Irons, and Warren Leyde. Haugen-Roble Funeral Home, Caledonia, Minnesota was in charge of arrangements.
Edmund was born August 27, 1923 in New Albin, Iowa to William and Frances (Kannenberg) Carroll. He graduated from New Albin High School. On May 7, 1948 he married Rhoda Jane Russell in the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin. He was a veteran of World War II, serving three years in the European Theater and receiving
three Bronze medals and a Purple Heart. He worked as an assistant plant operator at Interstate Power Company, Lansing, Iowa for 28 year before retiring two years ago. He was a member of St.Peter's UCC and of the New Albin Veterans of Foreign Wars.He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
Survivors are his wife; 2 sons, Scott Carroll of Waukon, Iowa, and Shane Carroll of New Albin, Iowa; 3 daughters, Debra Burroughs of New Albin, Iowa, Kimberlie Carroll of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Kristin Carroll of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 grandchildren and 2 half-brothers, Ken and Andrew Carroll, both of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
