Funeral services were held Thursday, March 10 at 11 a.m. for Helen Jean Otting, age 51, who died Tuesday, March 8, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. Father Ed Lechtenberg officiated at the services held at St.Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon, Iowa and burial was in Mt.Olivet cemetery. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Jack Anglin, Jay and Scott Hale, Tony Schwendinger, Roger Ruegnitz, Wayne Sawyer, John Prohaski, Don Denk, Gary Houg, John Jennings, John Hanson, and Rich Twait.

Helen was born September 5, 1936 in Monticello, Iowa to Louis and Coletta (Evers) Kramer. On May 30, 1960 she married Daniel Otting in Dyersville, Iowa. They lived in Maquoketa, Peosta, and Dubuque before moving to Waukon in 1970. She was a homemaker and a member of St.Patrick's Church where she was active in the church choir, the rosary society, and board of education. She was also a member of Waukon Lioness Club and had helped with various community volunteer projects. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, lace darning, various crafts, dancing, music and camping.

Survivors include her husband, Dan; 4 sons, Chuck of Harahan, Louisiana, Pat of Waukon, Iowa, and Matt and Tom, both at home; 4 daughters, Beth of Waukon, Mary, a student at Clarke College in Dubuque, and Kathy and Dana, at home; her parents; a granddaughter, Ashley; a sister, Mrs. Jim (Margery) Grawe of Marion, Iowa; and 6 brothers, Marvin Kramer of Farley, Iowa, Vernon and Daniel Kramer of Dyersville, Iowa, Bernard Kramer of Mesa, Arizona, Ronald Kramer of Epworth, Iowa and David Kramer of New Vienna, Iowa.
