Former Allamakee County resident Eddie Helmer Rood, age 82, died Friday, March 18, 1988 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Wakonda, South Dakota. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he was a member. The Revs. Richard and Thomas Gilman officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Beresford, South Dakota. Wass Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Robert, John, Larry, and James Lommen, Russell Austin, and Merle Nelson.

Eddie was born December 7, 1905 in Paint Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to William and Lena (Leikvold) Rood. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the West Paint Creek Lutheran Synod Church. He attended Northwest school in Waukon, Iowa. He moved to South Dakota in 1932. On May 27, 1939 he married Hazel Knudtson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He worked on several farms in the Canton, Howard, and Harrisburg, South Dakota areas. IN 1975 they moved to Beresford, South Dakota where he managed the Evergreen Square Apartments until 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Paul Rood, Ove Rood, and Norman Rood, and a sister Martha K. Rood.

Survivors include his wife, a sister, Mrs. Helmer (Martha N.) Vold of Waukon, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Paul (Alice) Rood, a resident of Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa, and Mrs. Ove (Gena) Rood of Waukon, Iowa; 2 nephews, Kletus Rood of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Wesley Rood of Waukon, Iowa and a niece Phyllis Cleys of Denver, Colorado.
