Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6 for Ambrose Farley Looney who died Tuesday, July 4, 1989 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. The 10 a.m. service was conducted by the Rev. Paul Otting at St.Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. Burial was in St.Patrick's Cemetery in Monona, Iowa with Schutte Funeral Service of Postville in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Donald, Daniel, and David Meyer, Anthony Gericke, Jim Bork, and Stanley Looney.

Ambrose was born June 19, 1921 near Luana, Iowa in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa to Edward A. and Evelyn (Henkes) Looney. He graduated from Postville High School and on November 15, 1944 he married Betty Koecke at West Union, Iowa. They farmed in Allamakee County until 1957 and owned and operated Heidelberg Gardens from 1957 to 1960. From 1960 to 1961 they owned and operated a clothing store in DeKalb, Illinois before returning to Postville where they purchased the Alibi Tavern which they operated until 1969. He was employed at Northern Engraving in Waukon, Iowa from 1969 until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of St.Bridget's Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, who died in 1965 and two brothers, Edward E. Looney and Kenneth Looney.

Surviving are three sons Michael, Mark, and Loren Looney all of Postville, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Jane) Meyer of Waukon,, Iowa, Mrs. John (Barbara) Gericke, Susan Erbe, and Mrs. Doug (Teresa) Berg, all of Postville; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two brothers, Ray Looney of Postville, Iowa and Jim Looney of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
