James Arthur "Jim" Prestemon - 1930-1989

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 17 for 58 year old James Arthur "Jim" Prestemon. He died Tuesday February 14, 1989 at his home in Waukon. The Rev. Henry Heinbuch conducted the services at Zion United Church of Christ. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were John Shafer, James Klenske, Ed Lauerman, Jr. Gladwin Anderson, Carlton Larsen, Paul Schneider, Vince Haas and Joe Gesing.

Jim was born March 10, 1930 on the family farm in Allamakee County,Iowa to Arthur and Grace (Sherman) Prestemon. He graduated from Waukon High School. On March 11, 1951 he married Leota Roderick at Zion UCC. She died September 28, 1955. On February 24, 1957 he married Alta Roderick at Zion UCC. He was a farmer and a member of Zion UCC, serving on the church council, Jefferson Township Committee, Allamakee County Pork Producers, and Waukon Equity Co-op Board of Directors. He was a 4-H Leader for five years and served on the Allamakee Community School Board from 1981 to 1987. He liked tp lay gol, read, fish, and travel.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his father and a son Mark who died April 22, 1973.

Surviving are his wife Alta; two daughters, Mrs. Dean (Sue) Engelhardt of Yorktown, Virginia and Mrs. Kim (Pamela) Benda of Rochester, Minnesota; two sons, David of Waukon, Iowa and Brian of Plano, Texas; his mother, Grace Prestemon of Waukon; two grandchildren, Aaron and Emily and three brothers, Richard, and John of Waukon, Iowa and Dean Prestemon of Ames, Iowa.
