Ellen B. Duvel, 88, of Waukon, died Sat., April 14, 2001, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Thurs., April 19, at 11:30 a.m., at the Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon. Rev. Donald Berg will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Ellen Bertine Vangen Duvel was born May 3, 1912, on the Glenwood Township, rural Waukon, farm of her parents, Peter J. and Georgina (Hagen) Vangen. She was baptized and confirmed at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, and attended schools in the Winneshiek and Allamakee County areas. On April 4, 1934, she married Wesley H. Duvel at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. After Ellen and Wesley were married, they lived in the Waukon area.

Ellen was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and its ladies circle. She enjoyed traveling in the U. S., playing cards, and was an avid Hawkeye basketball fan.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Donus; two sisters, Cecelia Anderson and Rebecca Vangen; and a brother, Palmer Vangen.

Survivors include a son, Wayne (Mary Jane) Duvel of Waukon; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Duvel of Decorah; a sister, Palma Geving of Waukon; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers were Thomas and Lane Duvel, Mike Wright, Todd Seigenthaler, Bill Lickel, and Gary Hesse.
