Walter G. Knopf, age 70, of Newton, Kansas, a retired machine operator for Hesston Corp., died Friday December 16,1988 at Newton Medical Center in Kansas. A family memorial service will be held later. Petersen's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Walter was born June 28, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa to David and Emma (Griser) Knopf. On February 14, 1953 he married Mary Martin at Rock Island, Illinois. He had lived in Newton for 33 years and was a volunteer at the Day Care Hospital in Prairie View.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Mark of Newton, Kansas and Michael of Carins, Australia; a daughter, Mary Alice Knopf of Newton; two stepsons, Jesse Morris of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Gene Morris of Rock Island, Illinois; a sister, Elsie Breitsprecher of Waukon, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
