Former Waukon, Iowa resident and businessman Ludvig Larson, 98, died Tuesday November 28, 1989 at his daughter's home in Russellville, Arkansas. Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 2, 1989 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. The Rev. Lynn Groe will conduct the services. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with military graveside services. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at Martin Funeral Home.

Ludvig was born in a log cabin January 6, 1891 in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Lars and Anna (Usgaard) Larson. He attended rural school in McKee Township and graduated from business college in Thief River Falls, MN. After graduating from business college, he returned to Waukon and was associated with his brother, Albert Larson, running the Model Cafe. For 40 years, he owned and operated a dry cleaning business which he began in 1915 on Main Street in Waukon.

He served in the Army from 1918 to 1919, serving in France as one of 60 scouts for Company D of the 139th infantry. He was wounded in September 1918 and returned to the United States the following May.

On June 15, 1921 he married Olga Stadsvold at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, Waterville, Iowa. He served eight years as mayor of Waukon and was a member of St. John's Church for 20 years, and a 70 year member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Joyce) Sperry of Russellville, AR, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Albert, Henry, Julius, Paul and two in infancy; and two sisters, Anna Skog and Carrie Engen.

Casket bearers are Roger Martin, Richard and Eric Prestemon, Frank Norden, Frank Hager, Bob Dotseth, Dan Regan, and Eaton Cote.
