Funeral services for Craig Deering, 30, were Thursday, May 2, 1991, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. John O. Falb, soloist, sang "On Eagles Wings", accompanied by JoAnn Martins, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Craig Eric Deering, son of Charles I. and Carol (Meyer) Deering, was born November 12, 1960, at Postville, Iowa. He died Sunday, April 28, 1991 at his home in Clayton County, rural Postville.

He was baptized January 8, 1961 by the Rev. Charles E. Witt at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and confirmed there on May 2, 1976 by the Rev. Norris C. Swenson. Craig attended the Postville High School. He participated in FFA and the Clermont Comets 4-H Club.

Craig was employed as a swine herdsman for Deering Brothers. In the past several months he had been studying for his private pilot's license and had completed the ground school training. He had soloed September 8, 1990 and was close to obtaining the required flight hours to obtain his license.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Michael C. and his paternal grandfather, Irving Deering.

Surviving are his fiancee, Lane Becker, his parents, Charles and Carol, a brother, Charles F. and wife, Kim and their daughter, Kelsie, Postville; three sisters, Lori and her husband, Jay Podzimek and children, Lindsey and Leah, Fairfax, IA; Stacy and husband, Phil Tharp, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Lisa and husband, Shannon Schultz and son, Chase, Knoxville, IA; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Leeone Deering, maternal grandmother, Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Thomas and maternal grandfather, Milo Meyer, all of Postville.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and had participated in the Luther League youth organization.

Casket bearers were Lane Lenth, Lonnie Lenth, Jeff Baker, Dan White, Allen Kuehl, Steve Jarmes, Nick Polfer and Terry Meyer.

CRAIG DEERING DIES OF CARBON MONOXIDE GAS

Craig E. Deering, 30, was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday evening at his farm two miles south of Postville. The Clayton County sheriff's office and the Clayton County medical examiner investigated and said the death apparently was an accident.

He ran a hog farrowing operation there and authorities said the victim apparently was alone at the time. He was found seated in his vehicle in his garage. The sheriff's office was called to the scene at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

He was the son of Charles E. and Carol Deering. The Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, are in charge of arrangements. Visitation was scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. yesterday and after 2 p.m. today at Schutte's.

He also is survived by a brother, Charles F. Deering of Postville, three sisters, Lori Podzimek of Fairfax; Stacy Tharp of Cedar Rapids and Lisa Schultz of Knoxville, two grandmothers, Leeone Deering and Bernice Thomas and a grandfather, Milo Meyer.

Services are to at at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Burial is to be at the Postville Cemetery.
