Amelia Driskill

Funeral services for Amelia Christen Driskill were held Wednesday, July 27, at 11 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated, assisted by Rev. Richard Pixler. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Prairie du Chien Evergreen Cemetery at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Amelia Christen Driskill, daughter of Ernest and Clara (Ziel) Christen, was born June 23, 1900 in McGregor, Iowa. She died July 24, 1988 in the Good Samaritan Center at Waukon, Iowa.

Amelia was the second oldest of nine children. The family moved to Monona, where she graduated from high school in 1918. She attended Cedar Falls Teachers' College and taught school in Millville, Marquette, Merrill Consolidated, Charles City, Carson, Casey and Corning, in Iowa and also at Fremont, Nebraska. She continued her education by attending summer schools at Boulder, Colorado and several California colleges.

She married Don Driskill on August 28, 1940. They lived in Corning, Iowa for many years. After the death of her husband in 1969, she moved to Postville and made her home with her sister, Ernestine Haltmeyer, for 17 years. In 1986 she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

She was a member of the Corning Methodist Church at Corning, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, Freda Christen, Hazel Lake and Clara Pixler and a brother, John Christen.

Surviving are 4 sisters, Edith Rehm, Marquette, Iowa, May Winecke, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Ernestine Haltmeyer, Postville, Iowa and Doris Allard, Belleville, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Dennis Soride, Kenneth Peake, Rev. Richard Pixler, Paul Rohowetz, John Snyder, Alan Peake.
