The aged mother of ex-supervisor William M. Kelly died at his residence in Paint Creek township, Allamakee County, Rossville, Iowa, on Friday, April 19, 1895. A brief history of her life is given: Sarah Moore was born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania October 15, 1810, and later moved with her parents to Belmont County, Ohio. She married Daniel Kelly on April 26, 1832 and remained in Ohio until April 1863 when she and her husband and nine children came to Rossville, Iowa. Daniel Kelly died October 26, 1872. Sarah was buried next to her beloved husband in the Rossville cemetery.

She leaves eight children to mourn her loss, William, Martha, Richard, John, Sarah, Philip, Eliza, and Emily. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church for over thirty years, and she died as she lived, with an ever and abiding hope in the bright world beyond on April 19, 1895, at the home of her oldest son William Kelly, with whom she has made her home for the past twelve years. Her age was 84 years, 6 months and 4 days. The first service after the dedication of the new Presbyterian church at Rossville on Sunday was her funeral, by Rev. R.L. Van Nice assisted by others.
